Can you feel it? Change is brewing. However, this is not a change in the style of 2020’s breakdowns nor 2023’s liminal limbo. The astrology of 2025 is groundbreaking, exciting, and empowering. It feels like it’s our turn to call the shots instead of having them called for us!
Before the new year, powerhouse Pluto entered progressive Aquarius. This is a truly monumental transition, especially for those who have only been alive since Pluto began its passage through Capricorn in 2008! Pluto will station retrograde in Aquarius on May 4, backspinning just a bit before going direct on October 13. The next twenty years will be marked by the planet of evolution’s presence in this socially and technologically dynamic territory. However, Pluto is just one piece of the cosmic puzzle that initiates 2025’s paradigm shift, a shift that is fundamentally elemental.
For the past two years, the slower-moving planets Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto have been posted up in water and earth signs. Their energetic expressions have been filtered through an elemental lens considered to be softer and receptive in nature. During this time, the outer planets have guided us to rethink how we establish and nurture our foundations. Collective growth has hinged upon discovering new ways to find emotional and material footing amidst uncertainty.
However, Pluto’s entrance into an air sign has kicked off a sea change. On March 30, Neptune, the planet of imagination, enters fire sign Aries for the first time since 1875! Neptune in Aries inspires us to pioneer a new vision! What is stopping you from championing your dreams? The limitations you fear may be illusory, so follow your creative compass! Neptune will station retrograde on July 4, re-enter Pisces on October 22, then go direct on December 10. Neptune’s seven-month stint in Aries gives us a glimpse of the events that will begin in earnest in 2026.
Next to make the elemental shift is Saturn, which will follow Neptune’s footsteps and enter Aries on May 24. The planet of discipline stations retrograde on July 13, and it too will re-enter Pisces on September 1, before stationing direct on November 27. Saturn and Neptune stop just shy of aligning, but they will travel side by side for the majority of the year. Although they won’t have their long-awaited meetup until early 2026, this duo’s compelling effects will be evident. Once-predictable structures will dissolve or reveal their deficiencies. As optimism over old leadership crumbles, who can you place your faith in? You, of course! Retaliate against imposter syndrome. Believe in your potential. Challenge the false promises of institutions that you once relied on for validation. Manifest a new mission!
After stationing direct in Taurus on January 30, revolutionary Uranus enters data-driven Gemini on July 7. With this, the energetic tone of 2025 shifts solidly from earth/water to fire/air, from receptivity to activity! Those foundations you’ve been forging for the past two years? It’s time to see how well they hold up! This is an opportunity to put knowledge into practice, take your destiny into your own hands, and begin creating the life that you’ve dreamt for yourself. Be intentional to avoid scattering your attention. Uranus stations retrograde on September 6 and will re-enter Taurus on November 7.
Saturn will have two auspicious meetings with Uranus, the first on April 4 and the second on August 11. How might you repurpose your knowledge and apply it to other disciplines? Catch lightning in a bottle by blending innovation with reverence for tradition! Additionally, Uranus will harmonize with Neptune twice, the first on August 28 and the second on November 20, stimulating spiritual experimentation and fostering a sense of oneness with humanity. Some may even develop an even greater interest in learning the ins and outs of astrology at this time!
Now, combining air and fire can yield the warmth of a hearth or an out-of-control inferno! Whether this mixture manifests as constructive or destructive will depend on how we contain and utilize this force. As we undergo energetic upheaval, we need something to stabilize us. Fortunately, the lunar South Node enters Virgo, and the lunar North Node enters Pisces on January 11, beginning a new eclipse series!
There are two spring eclipses (the Virgo full moon lunar eclipse on March 14 and the new moon solar eclipse in Aries on March 29), the latter of which culminates an eclipse series on the Aries-Libra axis that began with the Aries solar eclipse on April 20, 2023. Additionally, there are two fall eclipses, the September 7 full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces and the September 21 Virgo new moon solar eclipse. This is the beginning of the next round of eclipses that will take place on this Virgo-Pisces axis.
In 2025, novelty is the vibe, and on the plus side, the Virgo South Node will keep us grounded. It will help us to turn imaginative ideas into actionable results. However, over the next eighteen months, your task is to lean into the Pisces North Node and surrender your need to be perfect. Attempting to be The Best can make you spiral! You risk accepting too many opportunities and then feeling guilty over the logistical impossibility of following through. The solution: recognize that beginners are never experts in their craft! It’s more important now to throw yourself into exploits that inspire you rather than those that require meticulous attention to detail. It’s okay to be selective.
While the generational planets’ movements will significantly impact us for years to come, the faster-moving planets aren’t to be counted out of 2025’s action either! At the beginning of the year, passion planet Mars and luck planet Jupiter are retrograde in their respective signs. Mars backtracks into Cancer on January 6 and will spend the next three months attending to unfinished business in the sign of the crab before re-entering Leo on April 18. It’s instruction: reassess what is worth fighting for. Expect to spend much of this time second-guessing your instincts, and for good reason. You are likely operating off anxiety masked as courage, which is causing you to see enemies where there are none. If you desire security, you must not allow emotions to hijack your better judgment.
Meanwhile, Jupiter goes direct in Gemini on February 4 and picks up the pace to enter Cancer on June 9. Jupiter in Cancer serves to amplify feelings – for good or ill. Prepare for empathic exchanges AND moody meltdowns. The Great Benefic last transited this sign from June 25, 2013, to July 16, 2014. Look back to this period and note what was transpiring for you. Jupiter will clash with Saturn on June 15 and with Neptune on June 18, eliciting a crisis of faith in response to hardship. Be mindful not to set yourself up for disappointment by idealizing a person, project, or enterprise. Remember, if one door closes, many other doors are still open to you! Jupiter will station retrograde on November 11, and round out the year on a subdued, introspective note.
Love planet Venus also goes retrograde on March 1 in Aries and backtracks into Pisces on March 27 before stationing direct on April 12. As it does, it will cross back and forth over a cosmic pileup of Saturn, Neptune, and the North Node, asking us to choose differently in matters of the heart. Expecting perfection in yourselves and others is romantic kryptonite! You must relinquish this limiting belief if you want to call in better!
Lastly, all of 2025’s Mercury retrograde stations begin in the fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. In these domains, the messenger planet asks us to reconsider how we assert our opinions, express our original ideas, and articulate our philosophies. These transits will require us to curb reactive speech and communicate confidently, persuasively, and honestly without being brash, childish, or insensitive.
2025 dares you to aim for the stars! Dream big, be bold, but understand that nothing you do or do not do will make you a more or less worthy person. The universe wants to reward you for risks taken and passions pursued. Are you ready to invoke your creative powers?
